Electrical Contractors, Inc. (ECI) completed an electrical installation project in excess of $5 million for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is a new museum and exhibition hall that pays tribute to basketball’s greatest players, coaches, and contributors from around the world.  This entire construction project, budgeted at $32.7 million, replaced the existing Hall of Fame as well as spearheaded the $103 million redevelopment efforts of Springfield’s riverfront.

The sophisticated lighting, audio and video elements absolutely take center stage in this stunning complex which includes a museum, exhibition hall, full-size basketball court, retail stores, restaurants, a 200-seat movie theater, underground parking, and offices.

The building features:

  • A 90-foot-diameter dome
  • A striking 180-foot-tall lighted spire that provides an impressive view to travelers along the I-91 highway
  • A 6000 amp service and emergency generator
  • An exterior roof  illuminated with 812 fixtures that are computer controlled and are capable of producing 16.7 million colors in an array of patterns and designs
  • An exterior features a 3-story, 196-foot pedestrian bridge that links the Hall of Fame to the revitalized riverfront, crossing over two sets of Amtrak rails
  • Theatrical and building lighting systems with high-tech dimming and lighting controls for the entire complex
  • Life safety provided by a multiplex fire alarm system interfaced with the building lighting control systems

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame was one of our most exciting projects, requiring a tremendous amount of creativity and energy from our project management team and all of our install workers.  The unusual “basketball-domed” building and all of its unique features truly come to life through the electrical, lighting, audio and video work installed entirely by ECI. The company self-performed all the electrical work for the Hall of Fame and did not sub-contract out any part of the project.
